Siding Types

What's the trend with Siding Types?

The trend for which siding types are used on residential homes has steadily shifted over the past 30 years from wood siding (cedar shingles and clapboard) to synthetic products such as vinyl and composites like fiber cement and Everlast. This graph is a little bit hard to dissect at first but take a close look at 3 things:

  • The long-term decline in the use of wood siding
  • The recent decline in the use of vinyl siding
  • The recent increase in the use of "other" products (including composites such as Everlast)

It's expected that the use of "other" siding types such as composites will continue to increase over time. The greatest demand is for siding products that look the most like wood but require the least amount of maintenance. For a detailed comparison of the most popular siding types
