Comparing Siding Dimensional Stability

Wed, Sep 27, 2017

In layman's terms, dimensional stability is an attribute that describes the ability of a composite to maintain its integrity when exposed over time to environmental stress. When applied to siding material, siding dimensional stability refers to the durability of a product against moisture, inclement weather, and extreme temperatures.

The usual gamut of siding choices includes vinyl, wood, metal, and composite sidings. The dimensional stability of each of these materials increases in the order listed above. Vinyl siding has the most unreliable dimensional properties, but composite siding such as Everlast composite siding has the strongest durability of them all.

The problem with the durability of vinyl Vinyl Siding Problemssiding is that inevitably it will succumb to cumulative moisture damage. Vinyl siding consists of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) plastic, which contracts and expands at a higher rate than other sidings. As a matter of fact, vinyl siding can warp as much as an inch when exposed to extreme temperatures. In less than a decade, vinyl siding can become rather unsightly.

Wood siding is the most aesthetically pleasing siding for homeowners interested in all-natural, rustic curb appeal. However, wood siding, by its very nature, absorbs moisture even when properly treated. Homeowners can certainly slow down the weathering of wood siding, but over time, the material tends to rot, chip, and possibly become infested with pests if not routinely maintained.

Metal siding, while almost as durable as Everlast composite siding, has dimensional stability issues as well. Metal siding will not expand and contract nearly as noticeably as vinyl siding, and moisture resistance typically is not an issue if the siding has been properly treated. The problem with metal siding is that hail and ice damage can compromise its integrity, increasing the risk of costly rust damage.

Not surprisingly, Everlast composite siding Everlast Producthas the most reliable dimensional stability. Everlast composite siding durability trumps all of the sidings noted above. Everlast composite siding contains no wood fibers, so rotting is not an issue homeowners have to contend with during the winter season. Also, since the siding contains a unique mixture of stone and minerals, Everlast composite siding durability remains one of its greatest strengths.

Everlast composite siding is arguably one of the most versatile siding materials on the market today. Only a handful of quality home improvement contractors possess the skill and knowledge to accommodate homeowners interested in using this state-of-the-art material. Best of all, the dimensional stability of Everlast composite siding is only one of the many positive benefits this siding material provides.
